Busways are gearing up to commence full operations of their ‘Cooee’ On Demand service in conjunction with the Metro opening. Serving The Ponds, Kellyville Ridge, Schofields and using an initial fleet of 6x Ponchos.

Strathfield Connector is using 2x Ponchos and supposedly supplemented by 2x Coasters.

Is this really an On Demand service, or just a free local bus service? Whilst its staggeringly difficult to find any detailed information online about it (for example, references to a 30 minute frequency but no indication of a timetable - that sounds a little too "turn up and wait" for me....), it just seems yet another free community bus, which suits the current zeitgeist to be referred to as part of the on demand revolution, but actually has nothing to do with it.

I would suggest writing to the Council and ask them for a timetable.

Even knowing where the 30 minute timing point is would help.

That rather proves my point. If the Council is going to wait for prospective passengers to write to them to find out when they can catch the bus, they aren't really setting themselves up for success!

Council response:
Thank you for your email and interest in the Strathfield Connector.

At this stage Council has no plans to release a timetable, however we are looking into other options to make using the service easy.

Seems like nobody mentioned the upcoming on demand services to connect with the metro:
1. Busways will operate a Cooee service around The Pond to connect with the Metro at Rouse Hill and Tallawong, and connect with T1 Western Line at Schofields
2. CDC MetroConnect (how original...) will operate around Norwest

Segment on Ch 7 news tonight that Manly OD service will be cancelled at the end of May. Passengers will be redirected to Uber Pool.

Also mentioned that Coo-ee will be expanded to service the Metro.

Can't really beat people that will work for very little money and bear all the risk. The end is near once the state gov decided late last year that uber is worth getting into bed with, with their Mobility as a Service Initiative.

cost per pax is $75. Even if the gov has to subsidise the difference between the $3.50 cap and the uber pool fare, it is only $7-$10 and maybe $5 more for X.

After terminating ride plus, maybe the gov will eventually look at reducing some off peak fixed route services.

If it works for Manly, it will be extended to other areas where there are enough ants. This is what uber wanted for a long time.

Thanks boronia for this info.
Also remember that Manly Council operate several reasonably frequent routes in the area with Rosa buses.From my observations they carry quite reasonable loadings.

The hop skip jump (Fuso) services mostly cater for daytime off peak shoppers going to and from stockland. Being free, the price is right for people with plenty of time and don't mind changing buses at stockland. There won't be too many 9-5 people catching it.

The 59D on-demand bus needs to be extended to outside hours of fixed bus routes, instead of only during the day. I thought that was one of the main ideas of on-demand buses - to run them when regular fixed bus routes don't run.

59D and other on-demand bus routes that aren't should be based on Opal fares.

On Demand pilots enter next phase

Ongoing trials of On Demand Public Transport across urban areas are entering a new stage, with four of the pilots extended for further evaluation and two to be discontinued, Transport for NSW announced today.

On Demand pilots operating on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Eastern Suburbs, as well as pilots in Woy Woy on the Central Coast and in Newcastle are to continue for another 6 months while the RidePlus pilot in the Manly area and OurBus pilot in the Carlingford – North Rocks area will be wound down.

“These pilots, which are the first On Demand transport tested in NSW, are about learning as much as possible about this flexible, new format of getting customers where they need to go,” a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.

“The overarching objective of the program is to test and learn through the delivery of temporary pilots, each with unique characteristics and each serving different areas and communities in NSW. We always said changes would be made as results of the pilots were evaluated.”

On Demand pilots, announced in August 2017, were scheduled to run for a minimum term of six months up to a maximum of 24 months.

On Demand Transport is expected to feature in future contracts all over the state with learnings from the pilots to inform Transport for NSW’s planning, procurement and delivery of future transport services, with a view of improving customer outcomes.

RidePlus has operated since November 2017 and underwent some changes to its model in January this year.

OurBus began services in January 2018.

Customers of both pilots will begin being notified by operators and services will cease from Friday 24 May.

“Transport for NSW is using data from all pilots to plan future public transport improvements across all areas of NSW,” the spokesperson said.

Based on the patronage data for April the cancelled services were the second(OurBus at 1054)- and third(RidePlus at 1329)-least patronised. The Central Coast service that's being expanded currently has the lowest patronage at 963 with the Keolis service on the Northern Beaches having almost as many users as the rest of the pilots combined at 11,312.
Over a 6 month period the Carlingford service was the least patronised.

Aren't the Interline on demand BCIs full size buses where the story on Monday nights 9 news stated that the on demand services were run using mini buses

Has anyone seen the Interline on demand Edmonson Park service in action??
I have heard some stories that the service is carrying quite reasonable numbers.
It ,on paper ,operates in an area with good potential.Especially with the emphasis on peak hour connections with the train into a compact geographical area.
