2018 draft timetable changes obtained by ABC

After the work there are crossovers from up to down and down to up both east and west of the station, as well as bi-di signalling through both platforms and past the west of station crossovers. Platforms 3 and 4 can now both be used as terminal platforms at the same time while an additional 2 trains are held to the west of the station on the running tracks. It could probably turn almost as many trains as Bondi Junction now, but only if platforms 3 and 4 aren't used for through trains.

Between 2tph Cumberland and 6tph Inner West it will have to turn 8tph under the draft timetable, and I suspect that is something close to what we will end up with.

It is possible, but not if you want to run trains through Parramatta, as they do now. You''d get trains holding other trains up, all the time.

Apparently the plan is to run all through trains through platform 1 and 2 at Parramatta and use 3 and 4 for terminating trains of the truncated Cumberland service from Leppington, and for the extended inner west line.

Right ok. Looks like the proposed timetable abolishes most trains stopping at Westmead as they do now, because no one goes to what I think is the biggest hospital complex in Australia.

Love the Parramatta all to city circle trains /sarcasm.

The previous announcement about more trains for western Sydney says Cumberland trains will continue to operate to Blacktown/Schofields, so one would think that supercedes this... but yea, Cumberland line doesn't look too good for those needing to travel to/from Campbelltown...

Who cares? They have a cross platform interchange at Glenfield and there aren't too many of them!

You probably would if you have to wait 28min for the connecting train...

Let's wait and see what TTs are released by TfNSW. One would hope that Campbelltown trains will be more frequent than 30 min with More Trains More Services, and something would be done about silly interchange times.

I was watching the Sydney Trains CEO livestream on Facebook yesterday he mentioned there is a new weekend timetable coming.

swtt I'm guessing the 30 min frequency Campbelltown is in reference to the T2 Airport Line services. The simple solution for the Campbelltown branch of the T2 Line is the current 2tph limited stops trains is the current 1tph Airport express to Campbelltown is converted to limited stops service and the Kingsgrove express is converted a limited stops out towards Campbelltown. That train spends at least 30 mins in the turnback before heading back towards the City. So with that it would give a nice 15 min service. Also leaving a 6-9 min frequency between Wolli & Central.

If the plan is the Cumberland and T2 South Line go to Leppington full time including weekends it would be quite hairy. One option could be extend the Revesby all stations but this isn't a good idea since it will be 9-21 min frequency between Riverwood/Revesby to Campbelltown. Unless you want to change the 15 min frequency between Wolli and Central. Or simply add another 2tph towards Campbelltown and have 10 min frequency between Wolli and Central with 6tph.

With a new weekend timetable surely I would expect 4tph on the Northern Line. Maybe 6tph on the Airport Line between Wolli and Central. Maybe a few more trains for the Western Line.

Campbelltown trains are more frequent than 30 minutes, but the trains from Glenfield to Parramatta would be 2 trains an hour, according to the proposed scheme published the other day.

So the commuter from Campbelltown to Parramatta risks having a 28 minute delay at Glenfield in the morning. Whereas, in the afternoon, they might be waiting 28 minutes at Parramatta, but once they get to Glenfield, a train to Campbelltown will come along within 5 minutes.

Aren't we talking in peak hour? Even the Cumberland line should be more frequent than 30 minutes in peak.

Did you see the diagrams in that old secret document that the ABC published on Wednesday ?

The "Cumberland Line" becomes 2 trains from Leppington to Parramatta. That is the AM peak service.

There is another 2 trains from Leppinton to CBD via Granville, you could take one of those and change at Granville, if you just missed the direct Parramatta service.

But of course that is all speculation as that document is well and truly out of date.

Exactly. The government has already announced 10TPH for the Leppington and Campbelltown branches, so that's already 2 strikes against this leaked timetable from 4 years ago.

Also if the Bankstown Line were to be extended to Leppington, one would think that announcement would have been made when More Trains More Services for South West Sydney was announced.

I swear they might need a new map with the new timetable with like indications saying peak hour only or Mon - Fri otherwise it will be downright confusing I've heard people complain about the current map not showing which way trains go around the City Circle.

The Parramatta Turnback project allows both platform 3 and 4 to be used to turnback trains, as well as allowing both of the tracks to the west of the station to be used as turnback tracks. Running through services would complicate that, as well as breaking what looks to finally be full segregation between T1 and T2.

My money is on Cumberland line running Leppington to Parramatta.

Because it's not in the draft WTT. ;)

I guess 2tph heading through Parramatta to Blacktown can be worked around (if it is still indeed just 2tph!)

The idea of that plan is that there are ten trains between Parramatta and Blacktown ( all stops, to St Marys, Schofields and Richmond ), plus another ten to Penrith and the Blue Mountains.

But only two from Leppington to Parramatta. If you wanted to go from Leppington to Toongabbie, yoú''d have to change at Parramatta.

If there really were ten trains an hour going to Toongabbie, it would not be very burdensome to do so.

Not sure if all those ten trains were planning to serve Toongabbie though. Looks like they are thinking of splitting into fast trains in the inners and slow ones on the outers or vice versa, and just being grouped in with the slower trains doesn't mean they will catch up to the train in front, when following a fast train deviating onto the other track on the outbound. Similar on the inbound.

The ABC should visit the TfNSW website if they seek more information. The webpage doesn't have everything that they want, however, the information is at least more accurate - last updated 21/04/2017.
