Wasting money on new stadiums
Instead of wasting money on new stadiums NSW should drop payroll tax

Wrong forum perhaps but $2 billion for something we already have, lol. If only it was only Monopoly money they were playing with

Re: Wasting money on new stadiums
Some people think NSW has got heaps of money to spend on stadiums and they just have not sold the message properly but I think the only thing left they have not sold is the harbour bridge and I would not be surprised if the for sale sign went up soon.

Yes, we should build stadiums in tunnels. Much cheaper.

Re: Wasting money on new stadiums
It was ironic to watch Peter Beattie out telling us how important it was for NRL have these beaut new stadiums, then admitting he dosen't even know the names of just 16 teams involved.

Re: Wasting money on new stadiums
Yeah well saving 25% to refurbish an ageing structure over a brand new one doesn't sound like good value.
The premier is just bowing to hysteria yet again. Won't the hysterics be greater when we lose events to other states who have spent many times more on state of the art facilities? NSW never learns. It continues it's conceited 'rest on its laurels' collective attitude.

Re: Wasting money on new stadiums
Have been reading today that the state is losing millions in benefits because we don't have enough live theatre venues.
These would be much more beneficial than stadiums, with productions running for weeks and months, not just "one night stands".

Theatre Royal has been closed for a while following ownership changes of the building. The experts say we can support FOUR theatres here but only have two.

I don't have much interest in either of them. So I can take a neutral stance.

Re: Wasting money on new stadiums
The main reason knock down rebuild is so unpopular is because it is relativly new.
If the $800m for the upgrade is spent instead on an access/recovery/lift shaft on the grass next to Central and one next to Harris park station, as the CBD of Parramatta will be auto alley when Westconnex is finished, then I am sure the public would accept a knockdown rebuild stadium in ten years.
