For the Sydney enthuasiasts...

Postby Ray » Wed Nov 09, 2016 12:21 pm

For those of you who are long-term Sydney members of this forum, here's a treat. I've just come across an old page from this ATDB forum dating back to 1952. It demonstrates that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Here it is:

Australian Transport Discussion Board, August 1952

User Norfolk: R1 Corridor tram number 1960 has just been delivered to Rushcutters Bay Depot.

User VVilson: I insist on this class being referred to as the RII class tram. The R class is actually the R1 class.

User Swift: Another stupid plastic fantastic tram. The only real trams are the P class. New trams are so sterile and boring. Stupid boring R class.

User Norfolk: Rushcutters Bay is now all R1 corridor trams, being the Superior Depot.

User VVilson: You mean R II trams…

User Norfolk: R1

User VVilson: R II

User Norfolk: R1

User VVilson: R II

User Norfolk: R1

User VVilson: R II

User Norfolk: R1

User VVilson: R II

User 'Captain': I DROVE R1 TRAMS OUT OF DOWLING ST DEPOT!!!!! WE RAN THE TRIP ALL THE WAY TO MAROUBRA BEECH IT BROKE DOWN WE HAD TO CALL OUT THE BRAKEDOWN TRAM THEN TWO P TRAM’S CAME AND FINNISHED THE SERVICE!

Josh: One day all new trams will be air-conditioned.

User VVIlson: yeah right. Stick to your schoolwork kid.

User Fleetlists: 1960 has been added to the fleetlist.

User VVilson: the RI or the R 11 fleetlist?

User Fleetlists: FFS….

1960 would have been delivered in 1936. Why was it only reported in 1952?

A job very well done, but I do sense 1 thing missing; no mention of fully low-floor trams. Other than that it is very beliveable, well done.
