The idea behind this thread is to post rare and interesting car sightings, much like the bus observation sightings on this board.

Seen today in the workshops at Swinburne TAFE in Wantirna today are three or four Dodge Neons imported directly from the states, still in LHD format. I wonder if the TAFE students are going to convert them to RHD, ADR them and sell them off??, could be an interesting project for them. No photos available.

Well, I just noticed this thread and, as I have a habit of taking photos of anything old and unusual I come across (and not just vehicles), I have a few pictures I can contribute here. Dipping into my collection at random we have:

And here's something a bit out of the ordinary I spotted in Surry Hills, admittedly some time ago - a Borgward - the only one I have ever seen, although I have also seen this car a couple of times around Redfern:

AFAIK there were only something like 50 AX GTs sold here...they were a French cheap and cheerful hot hatch that was sold here for around $27k in the early '90s, just not worth the price...

THat Borgward Isabella Coupe is a real thing of beauty...Borgward went broke because he was obsessed with developing his own automatic transmission and threw stacks of money away on it instead of just getting a Borg Warner like every body else...I like the Val in front of it too, another rare sight in its own right these days.

On Thu and Fri I saw stacks of ROlls Royces around HObart, a SIlver Spur, early Silver Shadow, New Phantom, Silver Spirit, Silver Cloud, SIlver Dawn, 20/25, and another pre-war one that I didn't see well enough to positively identify.

The Ford Anglia reminds me of the Pommie TV ploice show Heartbeat.Sergeant Blaketon saying "ROWAN MY OFFICE"

It might not be obvious from the photo, but that Valiant is not in the best of condition. Here's a couple of others that are a bit better:

I reckon the best are the R and S models, but I like AP5 and AP6 also, kinda got a thing for VH Chargers and CL Chargers, or any CL/CM really...
I am quite fond of the big "Chrysler by Chrysler" models too, especially the 2 door hardtop ones!

THat Anglia is a Deluxe, with the full width grille. The later ones after they stopped selling them here had 1200 engines in them.

This would have to be the most unusual car I've seen in my wanderings around (other than maybe a pre-WW1 Rolls-Royce I saw in Wetherill Park but couldn't get a photo of). I was walking down Redfern Street and saw it coming down the road - I have no idea if it is an original or a replica - this was the best photo I could get as the traffic was fairly busy:

Subsequently I saw a couple of them (definitely originals this time) when we went to the "All British Day" at Parramatta last year:

Looks like it could be a Regal with a 273ci V8 as denoted by the three strips of stainless steel on the rear quarter panel and the V8 badge on the C-pillar.

There was a car show on down here at Kangaroo Bay today, didn't get to go down and see.

Took loads of photos too, I have to upload some of the digis, but most of them were taken on film so they will have to wait...

A bus driver told me about it on Friday morning, but I forgot. Any chance of uploading the photos here?

This is a fantastic thread.Already a great collection of the unusual!Today I spotted a 60s or 70s Rolls Royce sedan with RR for the numberplate.The paintwork was quite worn in for a car with such a special plate.

Also spotted a restored Ford Galaxie(?) two door convertible.The same car used in the Ridley Scott film Thelma & Louise.
It was trundling along the F3 at Berowra.The immaculate beige paintwork really set it off.

Love that last phot of the Citroen GS. They are becoming harder and harder to find. Seems in good nick as well. Even the top selling (for Citroen in Australia) BX has now dwindled in numbers. Being a Citroen family and enthusiast, (I own two and my wife owns one) I really appreciate those photos. Many thanks for posting them "franfran".

One of my neighbours recently sold a DS23 Pallas and has just sold his two GSs...if I had a bigger bank balance, more time and fewer projects I would have bought them myself! He still has the Moto Guzzi though.

When I went out for a walk at lunchtime, I saw two very different cars of interest, both very well maintained. One was a black Leyland Mini Moke (I've never seen a black one before) and the other a dark green Volvo P1800. I couldn't get a photo of the Moke, as it was in a line of traffic on Elizabeth Street (near Cleveland Street). I did get a photo of the Volvo which I haven't downloaded from my phone yet, but it may not be any good as it looks like a bit of stray light found its way into the lens............

The only memorable car for the day for me was a bright orange HZ Kingswood wagon parked on New Beach Rd ,Rushcutters Bay.
It looks to have been a well looked after example not long ago with a new careless owner as it had a ding or two but with shiny duco.Tells a story.

I work near Shannon's Insurance and have seen these beauty's recently...
