Australian Design in Fiji 1983

Post by ptlivestock »

Can anyone say whether the design of front dome on the Fiji bus below is of Australian origin. The rest of the body is to a PMC design which were built in Fiji in considerable numbers using components from Australia Image

The pink and white bus at the back has Domino style front and rear panels and there quite a number of that style built in Fiji by P A Lal on frames to a NZ design. Thank you for the "Domino Hedges" type name.

However the front dome on this bus CQ796 is slightly different, and seems now I have searched, to match products from Custom Coaches around 1978. There are photos of three more Fiji buses with this sort of dome but more recent than 1978 and could be just the application of domes to this mold. Then there is one that had a Custom grill area and it seems a single rectangular rear. Whether this is a import to Fiji or a Fiji built with Custom panels is unknown. Very few buses involved but niggling oddities

You got Custom Coach NSW,Athol Hedges QLD,Ansair VIC,PMC NSW and SA,Charles Hope WA,Denning QLD,Smithfield NSW,City body works TAS.To name a few these bodyworks 6 consigned to history and two are still operating. The only answer Peter is to ask LaL or Ba where the front cowl design came as they could of brought the plans off a Australian bus body builder.
