SCHOOLKIDS had a miracle escape as the roof of this bus was sliced off under a bridge yesterday.
Terrified teens on the top deck ducked for their lives.

Thirteen tearful youngsters and the driver were taken to hospital but none suffered life-threatening injuries. The driver misjudged the height of the railway bridge as he took 50 pupils to the Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington, Co Durham.

Witness Tony Jones said: "The roof was peeled back as if a can opener had been used on it. There was screaming and some of the kids had cuts to the head."

Residents dashed to the aid of shocked and bleeding children. One girl had a suspected broken collar bone. College principal Tim Fisher said: "It was a lucky escape." Police are investigating.

Wasn`t the driver familiar with school bus route to take a street that has a low bridge. Those poor kids on the top deck would of be crapping themselves seeing a low bridge then instant single decker.Looking at the pictures it look like it was a ex Dublin bus Volvo Olympian.

A candidate for understatement of the year perhaps?

That is an ex Dublin Bus Volvo Olympian, it looks freshly painted, possibly was a single deck school bus up to the delivery of trhe Olympian. We have Wright Gemini's at 14ft 5inch,, these are too tall to operate routes 78A & 79 in Dublin but as of Sunday coming, the route 40 (which has ALX400 & Gemini's) is merging with the 78A and I hate to be the one to tell the other garage their buses are too tall!!!! Theres a railway bridge with a clearance of 14foot 4 inch, its only an inch but that inch could impact the bridge or severly damage the dome....
