Because Scania has that awesome clackerty sound. 900rpm or 1900rpm, that clack is just the same.

Imagine a MkII with air conditioning. That would be a favourite for sure. I also like the 24.420 MAN, Volvo B12B coach.

But once you have driven a 14.5m x 4.1m x 29t GVM twin-steer, they're just not the same any more.

I somehow managed to overlook the criteria regarding buses being still on the books in my original post, so here's my revised list.

Scania L94UB Volgren/Custom bodied versions. 2532, 3269, 3311 to name a few.
Mercedes-Benz O305G/O305 PMC. Not in route service, but a couple of dozen are stored as servicable rail replacement vehicles. Faves include R536, R548, R574
MAN SL202 PMC
MAN NL202 diesel AP 160
Scania K320UA Custom
