Bus codes in fleet lists

Post by tonyp »

Not sure if this is the relevant thread to post this, but in the Fleet Lists codes, the letter T denoting three-door buses is annotated as having the doors front, centre and rear. This is clearly not the case with the Carbridge buses that have one front and two centre doors. I would think the definitions would be:

Front door - ahead of the front axle

Centre door(s) - between the front and rear axle (the latter being the third axle on an artic)

Rear door - behind the rear axle

If there are paired axles, like tags, the pair at the front would be regarded as the front axle and the pair at the rear as the rear axle.

The Carbridge three-door buses might be more correctly coded as FD(2) for example. Or even better use the codes F, C, R. With more than one centre plus a rear, it would be e.g. FC(2)R

The codes as they are presently set up don't give a clear indication of where the various doors are located. I'm finding the lack of information on doors generally in the bus industry (particularly photographically with most photos being offside) a bit frustrating. Another issue is high floor vs low entry vs (fully) low floor.
