These sub-forums have now been merged into the various city/state sections to simply navigation and discussion.

The whole reason that the sub-forums were created many years ago was because certain people were becoming annoyed about having to navigate through 'boring' timetables news threads often only covering mundane timing adjustments. The initial solution was a long multiple page thread for each state (similar to the observations threads which came later), but about 6 months later the sub-forums were created.

Surprised there was no consultation with the general readership before going backwards.

I'm guessing the preferred approach going forward that notable route, network changes or timetable changes going forward should get their own thread (examples would be things like George St closure, new network in Wollert, network-wide changes, major service upgrades for one route etc) while more minor updates (couple of extra peak trips, revised timings, minor route adjustment etc) are to be posted with the relevant operator news/observation thread?

Kind Regards

I understand what you are saying, but the reality is the forum traffic has plummeted in recent years and the segregation is really no longer justified. We would be lucky to have one third of the amount of posts from say 7-8 years ago. Most people that complained about having to trawl through timetable change posts have long since left anyway.

Your suggestion about common operator grouping for changes is a good one but it doesn't necessarily have to happen, the search function is powerful enough to find what you are looking for. With this change it also allows added discussion that goes along with timetable changes like "yes they should move the Smartbuses up to Monbulk depot now because of that alteration" or "no, you can't make that change, the Designline buses are too ugly to drive up that street" etc etc. Plus the network planning discussion that occurs in the regular section can sit along with the service changes, which makes much more sense.

In the case of the WA section, we have been posting timetable/service changes/information in the general Perth-WA section for a couple of years now anyway. Barely anyone frequented the timetables section. Most of the traffic within the WA section these days is really just limited to transport projects and service planning/changes discussion.

As a timetable enthusiast, I liked having timetable threads separately, but I suspect I am in a minority.

Same with the Adelaide section. Looks like the beginning of the end to me...

This is definitely a good move. Most people have been posting this stuff in the regular sections anyway, and if they do end up in the timetable section, they are more often than not just duplicate threads with the same info, at least in the case of Victorian stuff. Well done.

Only the beginning? This website has been dying a slow and agonising death for at least the last 18-24 months, if not longer. :P

Timetable section gone

I am somewhat disappointed that the timetable sections have gone from the separate area it once was.

To find timetable changes one has to go through all the separate state threads and it can be difficult to find given some people bump off the timetable changes to somewhere down below or somewhere else.

Hopefully they can be please be reinstated as to how they were.

Thank you.

I recall that at some stage last year, the average number of posts per day was well over 200. Now it is about 180. For a fall of 20 over 12 months in the average over more that 10 years, the number of posts per day over the past 12 months must be a lot less than that.
Over the next week I will keep some stats to see what the daily average is over that period. I suspect it will be less than 100.

Since last Saturday the average number of posts per day (for 7 days) has been 86. So certainly considerable reduced from what it used to be but certainly not terminal as yet.

What is classified as 'terminal'?

I dont know but certainly would need to quite a bit less than 86.

Things have been a bit better over the past 7 days with an average number of 97 posts per day.

Think 24months you had a spike from Opal posts - which have slowly been reducing as the system gets bedded down.
The number of outages the site has probably doesnt help either.

Well, both the main Opal threads come close to 10000 posts.

Cheers!

This week a daily average of only 83.29, with a daily average over the three weeks I have been keeping these stats 89.00.

The Opal posts certainly kept the stats up for some time but I dont believe they increased the avarege but just stopped them from going down as quickly as they may have done other wise. I have no stats to prove this.

It is some 12 months since the previous pots in this thread.

The average number of posts over a one week period has been as low as just under sixty while the average over the past 12 months is 74.60 so there is still a gradual decline in the number of daily posts.

And still more of that with only 26 posts in the last 24 hours - Sundays usually seem to be very quiet.
The average for both the last seven and 28 days is now below 50 with the average since November 1975 when we started this down to 71.88

I have renamed this thread so that it reflects the fact that we are now discussing the number of posts.

The Western Sydney STA Privatisation has brought some life back to the board with 124 posts in 3 days in that thread, with the last 2 days both having over 100 posts - first time this has happened since July last year.
Just about a week ago both the average number of posts for the last 7 and 28 days was below 50 - both now back over 50 with the last 7 days up to 73.14.

Ive noticed a lot of regular posters have disappeared especially younger ones who were getting some grief from other members in the past.
I have no interest in time tabling and route selection which seems to be big now, the posts of bus pics has definitely dropped off.
Lately signed up to a few Bus /Denning facebook pages to get my pic fix so instead of being here daily it could be when I remember I haven't been here for a while.

Everyone should be encouraging any new member posts and not attack the younger guys.
We had some young High school kids ages ago , I think one from Central Coast , what happened to him.

27 posts in the last 24 hours.
The seven day average has been below 50 for the last eight days.
And again the average number of posts for the last 28 days has fallen below 50.
And the average since November 2015 when the daily average was about 90, is now down to 67.

With extra activity from the new timetables in the past week and Newcastle plans, the average daily number of posts for the past week has been 71 with the average since November 2015 just under 66.
