SYD/ bus driving tests, any people own buses here?

Hey All,

I have a driving test for MR vehicles soon.

Any feedback on driving in Sydney's narrow roads?

Also, anyone own any buses where I could hire one to practice? Happy to pay for petrol/insurance per diem?

Re: Victorian Route and Timetable changes 2019

Demand responsive services are not ideal for higher patronage services, but can be a great marketing tool for low patronage services. It has certaintly worked in Gisborne where the operating area is relatively compact and you have regular predictable patronage, especially in the peak. Those new Kyneton...

Re: CDC industrial action

Not getting into debate about the strike but I will just point out rates actually around $25-26/hr. For comparison, that's still less money than entry level staff in the rail/tram industries get, for example barrier staff who make around $28-29/hr. RTBU has always been better at advocacy than TWU. ...

I don't want to speculate, as prob more issues than wages at play. But for comparison: Min Wage = 18.29/hr http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-01/australian-minimum-wage-increased-by-3.5-per-cent/9824282 Can't find data for MEDIAN (best measure for salaries) But Average driver wage = 34.44/hr https:/...

Re: Double Deckers for Skybus

Not quite DD related, but if they run a low cost service as an alternative to Melb-Geelong rail route, it might be worth investigating. Especially for peak hour and if they are allowed to use emergency lanes.

Oslo is going one up with services not limited to a closed traffic environment and with no fixed stops. Note: image of pan on bus is an optical illusion, it is from the tram in front. https://img.gfx.no/2052/2052638/selvkjorende%20tbd834af_edited.1000x563.jpg https://www.tu.no/artikler/utslippsfrie-...

Re: Longer trains & platforms

Not sure if it's been covered before but the new metro trains may feature auto stabling technology. Now If a union heavy RATP can get it trialled, the RTBU should ask their French counterparts why they haven't started talking about strikes. http://www.metro-report.com/news/news-by-region/europe/sing...

Re: RT&BU on public transport

What people don't remember is that unions, as with any other organisation, also needs a profit positive result each year. They do this by raising nonsensical issues dressed up as safety, and still in certain transport industries, require near 100% membership. Continued perceived intervention in work...

Re: Doncaster park & ride

Some proper bus priority on Hoddle St (full-time bus lanes and enforcement) would provide a better service than the slow and circuitous train service. Services will change from being a single seat ride direct from most parts of Manningham into the heart of the city; to requiring connections at Park...

Re: Cheap rollingstock dedicated to RRL

That being said, it would be interesting to know what would happen if the Geelong line was electrified. Would it run via Werribee (where sparks already run), or would it run via the RRL (where they would have to electrify an entire route)? Interesting question. I would suggest they would have littl...

Re: PTV: 2016 Night Network

I am sure those who plan services do request from operators to see where overcrowding occurs in nightride services. And by request it's not just validation data but CCTV footage.

Rest assured that taxpayers money do not go to waste. :)

Cheap rollingstock dedicated to RRL

With the H sets coming to the last legs of their lives soon, A company in the UK is overhauling old tube stock to modern DMUs that rival the standards of H sets here in Victoria. Do you think that VLine should order these for commuter routes to Tarneit, Bacchus Marsh and Stony Point? Granted they do...

Re: Interior of buses

Charging ports are common overseas, mainly trains. I don't recall seeing any in trams. The only ones which I have seen in buses were in Brazil long distance, not urban. Chewing gum wasn't a problem. The only urban bus operator I'm aware of that's implementing free wifi and USB charging ports is the...
