Re: News Article: Patronage at Lowest in Six Years
The operating costs covered by fares is a ridiculously small value at about 5%. That's a bit low, it's at least 15% (depending on what you include in the PTA costs), at about $210k That said, it also costs money to collect that money, with lots of ticket inspectors and equipment as well as the time...

Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - Sep/Oct 2017
Saw a very lost CAT bus yesterday. 2680 (I'm fairly sure) was on Welshpool Rd, heading up the hill past Lesmurdie!
It was being driven by someone in hi-vis overalls, so presumably this was a diagnostic run rather than a wrong turn at St. Georges Tce.

Re: Limited stops bus routes in Perth
Commuters at Kalamunda Bus Station routinely watch a 283 and a 296 leave empty while waiting 5-10 minutes for the limited-stops 295. And, generally, they get to the city sooner.

Re: Limited stops bus routes in Perth
The 295 to/from Kalamunda replaced the 799 which ran without stops between the Tonkin Hwy bridge and the Transfer Station. It had stops added along the way because of middling patronage and the perceived frustration of passengers watching a half-empty bus bypassing them. This change was a pain at th...

Re: Mill St exit layout at Esplanade Busport
With this change, does that mean that they have potentially reduced one to two phases of the traffic lights cycle? Do the road dimensions actually allow for buses turning to/from Mill St to be in the same phase? Could be just the perception, but it doesn't look like there's enough room for buses tu...

Re: Mill St exit layout at Esplanade Busport
The previous arrangement used to work fine _if_ everyone did the right thing (Mill St buses kept left, everyone stopped to allow Mill St entries to get it, etc.) There's not really any way to avoid that cross-over point (short of traffic lights, maybe) as any bus going to any other exit (or just to ...

Re: WA Transport General Discussion & Questions - 2017
did you think PTa should use saturday timetable on that two days or at least have more additonal service (100 extend to cannington). I know there's a bit of chicken-and-egg with restricted timetables and patronage, but I've almost never driven a crowded bus on a Sunday or a public holiday. In summe...

Re: Perth Causeway citybound exit for buses
I don't remember the names, but one of the old timer drivers was telling me about the history and politics of the VPTS placement. Emphasis on the politics. It really can't be any further east, as buses need to go from there to Great Eastern and Canning Highways and using the turn onto Albany Hwy tha...

I do hope they put up a bigger sign warning cars to turn onto Dunreath from Fauntleroy, otherwise the bus+Uber lane's going to get disrupted by private vehicles loading and unloading.
Edit: They have!

Re: Transperth Service Changes - 2016
With high frequency services using Mill St to enter the EQBS, the taxis that routinely double-park and park right at the corner to the Tce are going to have to change their ways! They're a problem now, but only for buses running empty at the moment (935s finishing at Westralia Sq, etc.); in-service ...

That happened back in 2010 along Welshpool Rd in Wattle Grove Incorrect. Please check your facts before posting. I had to smile when I heard an announcement on Monday night that buses using the new Busport should go to the stands marked on their running sheets rather than waiting for stand allocation.
Seems the new system _almost_ made it through the first weekday...

A couple of observations from the week: I've been in and out of Cannington Station every night and I reckon I've seen a greater variety of bus models than you'd find in most transport museums! Must've been a bit of a shock for passengers to see a bus older than them (or, indeed, their parents) turn ...

I saw 2380 (Airport T1/T2 livery) doing a 40 today, followed 20 minutes later by 2347 (ordinary livery) doing a 380. A change-off at some point, probably. I saw 2380 back to its accustomed 380 a couple of hours later. Same story today, so it must be a scheduling decision rather than an emergency fix.

Seemed like an obvious facility with the new ETIMs having data communications (except when they don't, which is often enough to be a concern...) and an NFC reader.
I guess the compromise position is allowing SmartRider purchase and top-up via PayPass or similar in the bus.

All drivers I've spoken to are very happy NOT to be travelling between Betty Jetty and The Dungeon (Elizabeth Quay and the underground Wellington St) and experiencing the highly variable delays that it entails. Terminating the commuting-period buses that used to extend to WSBS on Row A, near the 950...

Re: Who Remembers?-Renault's Driven With A Open Doors
The rules for drivers used to have a longish list of conditions for driving with the front door open, then it got simplified to, basically, "Don't!" It's still allowed when the bus isn't in service and has no passengers.

Re: Transperth service changes - 2016
Wishful thinking - I would introduce a new CAT to purely run between EQBS and WSUBS. Trouble is that passengers just don't like transferring between services. The first time the 30, 31 and 34 services were stopped at Esplanade (while the temporary WSBS was being built), patronage dropped and never ...

Sounds like the driver entered the wrong code (probably "000") causing the blank display used by engineering instead of the code for "000 Not in Service"Shoudy Chen wrote:Yesterday saw 2481 with no display running from Manning Rd. I presume it must be Not In Service atm.
