Re: Glink to Tweed Heads? & Byron Bay??

Surfers paradise to Byron Bay is 93 km. Would that be the longest Light Rail run in the world? As most trams are designed for urban use, what changes would they need to speed them up?

Re: Wrong way

Thanks Moreton. I wondered whether covering all the stops was more or less important than keeping to time, especially on a BUZ route. I know keeping to time would be scant consolation for those who were overcarried.

Wrong way

A recent journey on a 333 got me thinking. Now, this is not intended to have a go at drivers, or be in any way critical of the trip I had. I will not say when this was, or what depot the bus came from. The driver inadvertently went onto the APL instead of the busway. They had only a short time to de...

Re: NGR701

I did not suggest they would be replaced after 20 years. Rather they would still be running, but there would be a couple of newer generation models running around with them, thus rendering the nomenclature ironic or inappropriate.

Re: NGR701

When these sets are 20 years old and no longer new generation, wonder what the acronym NGR will stand for?

Re: Route P332 Chermside to Citywill be extended to begin at

simonl wrote The other issue with putting the 77 on those side streets is that it would need to do a lap of the block after dropping off to reach them. Entering the interchange seems the best option. the issue of putting buses into side streets was in reference to earlier discussion about using TAGs...

Re: Route P332 Chermside to Citywill be extended to begin at

though why not just create a dedicated stop outside the centre? surely a hold up area could be created in a side street somewhere that's appropriate for the larger buses.. ? There are not a lot of street options around Chermside. When the 77 is waiting for departure time on Hamilton Rd it affects t...

Not really familiar, Hornibrook. But a long time ago. If pressed I would say it was more of a clipper shape at the back, but really stretching my memory

And thanks for the photo of the Cribb Island bus - used to catch them from Vernon St to Hendra HIgh in the early 70s.

Re: Toombul free buses

Thanks Hornibrook - amazing how the years can affect memory - in my mind's eye I see a longer bus with Minden Bus Service on it running to Hendra, and a smaller bus heading to Wavell Hts. But I'm not going to argue with Mr White!

Re: Toombul free buses

Thanks Hornibrook - I did not know that Cribby ran the free bus! I am now wondering whether this was the case from the opening of TST. The buses used in the 60s did not carry the Red and White or Cribb Island Bus Service livery, were not of a type they used AFAIK and ran more frequently that the tim...

Toombul free buses

This is a long shot, but does anyone have, or know where I can find, information about the two buses Toombul Shopping Centre operated as free buses to get people to the centre when it opened on 1967, and the extent of the routes they followed? One went towards Wavell Hts and the other towards Hendra...

Re: Political support for bus lanes. Is it possible anywhere

I've heard plenty of people complain about long wait times at red lights. And I agree - not sending the 330 and 340 into the shopping centre at peak times would be a great option.

Re: Political support for bus lanes. Is it possible anywhere

That's what I'm saying. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts (well, almost) that the B signal would be more acceptable. It's a bit more hidden.
But with the B signal, you upset everyone. With the dedicated right turn lane you only upset those turning right. Don't want to be a politician or town planner.

Re: Political support for bus lanes. Is it possible anywhere

Perhaps extend Rod Harding's transitway to Hamilton rd instead of Sparkes St northbound with add a lane on the left and a B signal. What do you think? Will be hard getting across to the right turn lanes if there is not something to assist. If you are suggesting a bus only signal that allows right t...

Is there a reason that BT are seemingly replacing low floor air conditioned Scanias with 5-6 years service remaining? On the face of it, not a good financial decision.

I'm no expert, so just speculating. If they were not planning to use it, would they not cash in the rego? The yellow line sounds like a temporary measure to me.
