Re: A dear old friend gets a facelift

Wonderful.

I hope that its magnificent horn hasn't been changed. Until the day I die, I shall remember the sight of an ancient pedestrian who ambled across the road, paying no attention to approaching traffic, who was suddenly galvanised into high speed avoiding action!

650 new buses for Perth.

The following article comes from Perth Now. NEW buses will soon be hitting Perth's streets, with half of the Public Transport Authority's (PTA) Transperth fleet to be replaced over the next decade. The Government will consider cleaner and greener solutions such as the latest Euro5 diesel systems, mo...

There are no trailers. All cars are powered.

Re: Woolworths/Safeway Rewards Card

The mainland one gives a 4 cents per litre discount from petrol bought from a Woolworths service station, provided that $30-00 or more has been spent at a store owned by Woolworths. (There is a time limit by which an earned discount must be used.)

Re: 2009 Model Truck Show

Thanks for posting the link, tbc. Some truly superb models. I was particularly impressed by some of the cargoes. My favourite was the body of a very old car, with very oxidised paintwork, off to be preserved. Another good one was a car with various body panels missing. Not to mention XA1405! What do...

No. They were introduced to Australia to kill a pest. They ignored the designated pest and became a huge problem.

Cane toads to China.

There was an interesting interview this morning on the Radio National programme "Bush Telegraph". The interviewee was an exporter of exotic meat. The Chinese were eager to import cane toads for human consumption, with the poison to be used for Chinese medicine. Import and export licences w...

Which operators will be providing rail replacement buses?

I'd be grateful if people "in the know" would provide information as to which operators will be providing rail replacement buses this weekend. Will it be Transperth contractors, other contractors, or a mixture of the two? Regarding Rockingham to Mandurah, perhaps someone from "down so...

Re: Possible new observations thread/s for WA

I wish to argue strongly that the single observations thread should be retained. Our metropolitan passenger transport system is integrated and it would be illogical to have more than one thread reporting on an integrated system. I believe that country passenger and all freight railway matters should...

You're right, atkipete. The cab you described certainly has a very Atkinson look. I never saw that truck "in the flesh", nor do I recall ever having seen a Foden with such a cab. However, I am very far from being a truck expert and I hope that someone more knowledgeable than I will share i...

Re: What is the Food Like On Virgin Blue flight ?

Don't worry about the food. Unless you are a midget, worry about whether you'll have gangrene in your legs, after being cooped up in a very small space!

My first (and definitely last) flight on Virgin Blue, was even shorter. Rockhampton to Brisbane. Boy, was I glad to get off that plane!

Re: Fremantle Municipal Transport Board: AEC Heaven!

Very interesting pics, especially the one of the rear of the Regal III. Were they pram hooks, or could bicycles be placed there ? Also, the upswing of the rear skirt was a design feature of many buses in the 30s (but this bus is much later). Was it fashion, or did it serve some purpose? They were p...

Fremantle Municipal Transport Board: AEC Heaven!

The FMTB was a dedicated user of AECs. However, it bought three Reo Budas in about 1943, due to the unavailability of AECs because of the War. It disposed of the Reos to the Inter Suburban Bus Service, as soon as it was able to obtain AECs. It bought two SB Bedfords in 1952. I'd love to know why. Ap...

Last days of buses to Perth, before Joondalup Line opened.

Prior to the opening of the Joondalup Line, passengers to Perth from the northern suburbs travelled by bus. In addition to the all stops services, some major locations were provided with peak period express buses, which travelled via the Mitchell Freeway. From the inception of the Joondalup Line, bu...
