Model Rail Bits
I have spare sets of peel and stick red fleet numbers for Flexity tram models that I am currently selling off as part of a big clean-out. Numbers are 101 to 105 inclusive and 107 to 115 inclusive. Each set has 8 numbers in it which allows for errors. Happy to sell these for $5 per set including post...

Re: [SA & WA] Assorted Rail Adventures
Supplies are railed into Cook from Port Augusta. It used to be a much bigger town in Australian National days when it was a major service town. Today it is really a refuelling point and crew barracks for driver changeover.

Re: Disposal of GM1 Locomotive
The conditions of the transfer prohibit her leaving our shores. As The Inspector said, she is the first mainline diesel locomotive (on the mainland at least) to ever run, pipping SAR's 900 locomotive to a test run. Arguments are coming from some that GM2 is in more original condition and that SAR 90...

Re: Disposal of GM1 Locomotive
According to a National Railway Museum member, Allambi cost them $25k to move from Melbourne to Port Adelaide - a distance of a little over 800km. With GM1 already at Dry Creek, the cost should be lower to move it within the Adelaide Metropolitan region or even to Mount Barker. Its very rare that th...

Disposal of GM1 Locomotive
As the rail fans on here may be aware, GM1 is up for disposal by the Federal Government after a long period of being leased to GWA. They are offering it to a preservation group which can foot the bill for its transfer and the group must have a proven history and be capable of looking after GM1, pref...

Re: Outer Harbour Revitalisation
The turnout to NRM is before the viaduct, however there is a considerable deal of running between Alberton and that turnout, as opposed to Woodville where it is in the station yard. As you say its also easier to transfer people onto buses at Woodville, and the Grange train can be used to provide ext...

Re: Outer Harbour Revitalisation
My understanding is that work is being concentrated on the Port Adelaide viaduct. I suspect that it probably has various forms of corrosion; including "concrete cancer". During the previous shutdown; and for the entire previous history of the viaduct, it could not be closed for any length...

Re: [AdelaideNow] Bus Driver sacked over wee break
Any operator would have to act the same since the Police had become involved in the matter. This is true and its a situation no company would want to find themselves in. It can reflect poorly on the company no matter which course of action is taken. As we can see here there is the side which is say...

I thought I'd start a thread for random model rail photos. I'm not sure where Admin sits on something like this, so I'll post it up and if it needs to be removed I can understand. As always MPM, a pleasure to see your models. Is the track up for an extension any time soon?
It would be rather cool actually if you motorised one with a remote control mechanism that could O-Bahn around a track... just a suggestion.

I think you have your classes a bit muddled around. This is the typical consist from the rear of the train (departing ADL), the display consist did not show Red Service which is aimed at the backpacker, short haul and lower budget market: Red Service: Daynighter Seats (AG or BG type Car): Airline-st...

Re: Driver security screens
Has anyone mentioned or thought of the saftey of a driver in an accident? Vehicles, inclduing trucks and buses, have all sorts of safety equipment installed to minmise body injury in case of an accident (secondary safety measures, whereas primary saftey measures help to avoid an accident in the fir...

Re: Driver security screens
It seems a bit antisocial, and could turn some commuters away from public transport. Its psychological, if you see a protection barrier somewhere you automatically assume there is a reason for it. If its in a bus that therefore means that the bus must be dangerous to ride in. If there is no barrier,...

Re: TRAM LINE CLOSED 4 July - 5 July
I dont know if it was so much the contractors. The word on the street is that to cut costs (and subsequently corners too) TA/DTEI provided no tamping equipment, nor the funds for it. The temporary track, which has a limit of 25kph, looks something like the Gawler line on a hot day. Its possible some...

Re: Premier Stateliner Coach Group
Yes I have used it, quite a bit being a regular traveller between the city and the country, and to this day it still disgusts me enough to take the train at least one way. As a passenger, the facilities are nothing short of embarassing for Adelaide. The toilets have been extended yes - but they are ...

How long ago were these taken? Nice to see the old terminal in use though, if only that were still the Terminal. As shameful as it was, it was a trillion times better than that passenger-deterrent they now use. Suffice to say Adelaide's new bus station is a very good advertisement for rail services.

Re: Photo request
One key issue is that the Outer Harbor and Grange lines, as well as the Belair line from which Jumbos are also banned, entail long stretches of single track running. Jumbos are notorious for their poor performance at take-off and braking which causes services to run reliably late. If this takes plac...

Re: Celebrate the Winter Solstice at the Museum
I got there for a little while, and I'm not a member. I found out about it through friends. It did appear that it was mostly members of the museum who were there, but it was a good experience riding in the trams in the dark with the lights of Adelaide reflecting off of the salt pans. I hope they do ...

I also highly recommend it B7RLE92. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it is probably the best quality transport museum in the state. Nearly every tram is restored (meticulously) to an operational state and a number of different trams operate every open day. Combined with some very informati...
