Re: Adelaide's 'Yellow' Volvo fleet

Thanks for posting those, great shots! Although I have a feeling that some of the B10M/B58 artics may have also been allocated to Elizabeth depot (or were they originally allocated to Lonsdale, Morphettvale and/or Aldgate before being sent up north?).

Re: Bus 123 in 1969

It is probably largely forgotten now, but they were ordered in 1973, prior to the Feb 1974 takeover of the private fleets, and were intended to replace the 16 omo Leyland Worldmasters, and the 30 AEC Regal V1s, as well as some extras to replace private buses on the Athelstone and Flinders Park rout...

Bob Moran Cars. I just had to get that out there before someone else did. Bob and his ads that seemed to be everywhere during the 80s and 90s. Those two massive car yards of his: the one at Reynella on South Rd where there are about six different dealerships now, and the one at Medindie which is now...

Re: Double Decker Bus to be trialled

Well, the ABC are now reporting that there will be a double decker bus trialled in Adelaide, so it must be legit. The trial will commence in July, which will give us ample time to brace ourselves for the inevitable chorus of disgruntled commuters bleating about how it's too hard to walk up and down ...

Imagine if DD buses were introduced to Adelaide. You'd end up with people whinging about having to go up and down the stairs!

Re: This is my idea with extend the rail network in Adelaide

About the only two ideas that make some sense are extending the Tonsley line out to FMC and reinstating trains to Mount Barker ... but the trains to Mount Barker would need to be limited stops (say Blackwood, Stirling*, Bridgewater, Balhannah, Mount Barker), otherwise the train would take way too lo...

The smell on the GA1/GA2 isn't the bus: it's from all the ferals that catch them. :P

Anyway ... I'm sure Lonsdale and Aldgate would be more than happy to swap their Rosas for NL202s ...

Re: How Is The Change Over In Adelaide Going ??

A driver change doesn't have to be such a faff! I remember when I was young and rode a lot of STA buses, drivers would change all the time. Driver pulls over at a stop or layover zone, old driver packs up his bag, new driver unpacks his bag, set himself up and off he goes. Used to take maybe 2 minut...

Re: [Oct 2011] SA Transport observations

Also, 1970 was doing an 868 around 4PM. Is this normal? I thought these vehicles were restricted to school runs? I've seen an SG280H (either 1969 or 1970) on an 866 around that time. That was a few months back, and I haven't see it since. Was quite odd to say the least, considering the 866 could ba...

Re: Channel 10 News at 5pm will highlight bus problems

I heard Chloe Fox on 891 ABC Adelaide on Monday morning. There wasn't a lot about buses, although she said she is aware of the issues. A lady from Golden Grove phoned to complain about the J1 being discontinued (not the caller's words, she just said she was upset that there was no bus from the North...

Thanks for setting Adelaide's bus system back by at least 10 years, DTEI. :( I realise that a third contractor was going to cause extra complications making cross-suburban routes harder, but surely DTEI could have achieved the Government's objective to introduce a third contractor without causing so...

Re: MTT Daimler, Swifts, Deutz & Merc 260

Seeing 401 reminds me of the scale model which was displayed in the MTT/STA ticket & info office at number 50? Grenfell St in the early to mid 1970's. (The building where the Telstra shop is on the corner of Grenfell St and Gawler Place). It was the same scale and detail as the dropcentre tram mode...

I spotted an old Darwinbus Volvo B10M artic on the Freeway uptrack yesterday afternoon. Didn't get the fleet number. All I can say is that it was a weird looking thing, very skinny at the back. (should this be in the NT Transport observations?)

I don't mean to change the subject, but who wants to take a guess on what the shortest serving bus will be? (did someone say K-series Scania??) hehehe ;) My first guess would be the Dennis Dart that Serco ran for a short period in the late 90s. A post some time back mentioned that in 2013, Sc...

Re: Longest serving type of bus?

Maybe not the longest serving bus but Adelaide had the longest serving body design I think. A design that was a feature of Adelaide public transport for about 40 years and ceased when the Volvo B59's ceased in 2003. When did the classic PMCSA shape first turn up? I'm thinking it was about 1968 or s...

Longest serving type of bus?

The recent retirement of two legendary classes of bus (MAN SL200 PMCSA and Volvo B10M Fuji Artic) had me wondering which type of bus has been continually serving Adelaide the longest. My initial answer to this question is the M-B 0305 (1977-present). Firstly, as 240/7000 from 1977 to the mid 1980s, ...

Prams are not priority to wheelchairs You wouldn't think this was the case in the Outer North contract area. And do you really want to argue with some of the parents out in that neck of the woods? As for the specifications of the bus regarding wheelchair accessibility, one would suspect that...

If things were to go the way of the hedgehog in S.A. his owned buses would most likely end up in Perth at one would guess, Welshpool or Karrinyup in the case of 1641/1642, Kalamunda, Midvale or Ellenbrook in the case of 1353/1354, Kalamunda with 1320-1324 (as they can actually climb a hill at a rea...
