TP3001 / TP1256 minor collision 26 Feb 2019

TP3001 (950 to QEII Medical Centre) and TP1256 (Red CAT), following a fair amount of forward and reverse manoeuvring, after a minor collision (or scrape) on William St after Murray St around 8:40 am, 26 Feb 2019. I did not witness the moment of collision, only the manoeuvring afterwards which caused...

TP1873 blank desto

Why were the destination boards (front, side & rear) on this TP1873 completely blank instead of e.g. 000?
Spotted at 4:50 pm 12 Dec 2018, William St northbound before St Georges Tce.
The driver was in uniform and the bus was otherwise empty.

Old train ticket machine

While looking through folders on an old PC today, I stumbled across some low quality (poor composition, flash visible in subject) pictures I took as a kid, of the ticket machines at Perth Train Station. Taken 14 OCT 2006. (Unfortunately there were no bus photos in said folder) IMGP1032.JPG IMGP1031....

Putting bright multi-coloured lights on the exterior of architecture since 2009-ish, completely changing the character of Perth. Notable examples include Perth Council House, Elizabeth Quay bridge, the green panels on the outside of the new Children's Hospital and now the Perth Stadium Footbridge. I...

Therefore blanket statements about public transport being good or bad for commuting is incredibly place dependent and not at all helpful. Absolutely. The time difference between different modes is strongly dependent on origin, destination (especially the proximity of each to bus stations and train ...

Re: WA Transport General Discussion & Questions - 2018

Crossing Beaufort St Bridge northbound this evening I noticed orange-taped square signs on the traffic light posts at Roe St. I suspect these are No Right Turn signs soon to be uncovered. If so this is a much needed change, since the two northbound lanes are filled up quite easily in the pm peak, an...

Hand washing basins which are far too shallow, particularly the newer "artistically designed" ones which are no more than an inclined plane.

Re: Doubt on Perth LRT future

Probably not. I don't see how Wellington St (between William and Barrack) or any east-west corridor through the city is wide enough to accommodate trams without affecting the buses that go through it, and also the buses entering or exiting the underground busport. The three lane arterial roads of ye...

Re: Limited stops bus routes in Perth

The 950 is a success BECAUSE it's an all-stop service. The 66 in peak hour would still benefit from being an Express service instead of limited stops. The few Limited Stops services I do, work nicely...very effective Yes, making the 66 express again would make it more attractive in terms of the tim...

Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - Mar/Apr 2017

On the topic of traffic signals, I am of the opinion that timing/synchronisation can make limited improvement. I reiterate my previous point: vehicles need to turn right. Most intersections have approach legs only two lanes wide, so full monty (3 circle, 3 arrow) lights aren't appropriate, except at...

Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - Mar/Apr 2017

You can't have (non-indented) bus stops on any street which has a dedicated cycling lane on it. Well in some respects, yes it was to stop circling trips and make navigating easier, but also to improve the movement of people. We've seen reduced number of lanes and wider footpaths - it has never been ...

Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - Mar/Apr 2017

It did work better. With everything two-wayed you get either: 1. Green light only: left lane is held up by left turners giving way to peds, right lane is held up by right turners giving way to oncoming traffic (e.g. William St int. with St Georges Tce) 2. Green light always with green arrow: at most...

First memory of bus ride: 2003 (6 years old), route 60 to Perth, rigid inaccessible bus, Mercedes Benz or Renault.

Back in the days of manually wound route displays, nice sounding bells, openable windows and not having to cross the road to get into Perth train station.

Re: What is your favourite seat?

I have long legs, so for the best leg room I go for the seats in front of the rear wheels. However on some of the newer Volvos (the batch with shiny metal backrests and ear-piercing stop-bell) those seats seem to resonate with the frequency of the idle engine, and the whole seat vibrates when the bu...

Re: Mill St exit layout at Esplanade Busport

The stop lines have now been redone, and the incoming buses stop for the repositioning/freeway/William St buses. Of course, if a bus entering the A road forces its way in, then the potential for head-on collision described by Merc1107 still remains.

Re: Mill St exit layout at Esplanade Busport

With this change, does that mean that they have potentially reduced one to two phases of the traffic lights cycle? Do the road dimensions actually allow for buses turning to/from Mill St to be in the same phase? Could be just the perception, but it doesn't look like there's enough room for buses tu...

Re: Mill St exit layout at Esplanade Busport

Nah there are too many legs of traffic which conflict with the exiting buses at those lights (cars going in/out of Adina/Exhibition centre, pedestrians, and since 2014/15 westbound traffic along Mounts Bay Rd, which google maps has incorrectly labelled The Esplanade). Even after the lane swap I stil...

Mill St exit layout at Esplanade Busport

The layout at the Mill St exit is being changed. The bus lanes have been swapped so that the two exiting lanes are on the left, presumably to get rid of the crossover. However this means that the bit marked with ? below is now being used by buses going in both directions. This arrangement can't be p...

Sound when certain buses move off

Anyone else notice that on some buses, there's a horn-like (but not loud) sound when it moves off from standstill?

Last time I noticed this was today, on TP 2313. I think it happens on all similar buses (but I'm no make/model expert).
