Re: American vs European buses

This is an interesting, light-hearted look at the differences between North American and European city buses. It seems that Australia is very much in the North American mould, though with a bit of both, but the Custom Denning Element clearly has European genetics - its similarity to Solaris designs...

561 SB48JX BCI Citirider (0701 2017) B51Fw previously unrecorded on fleet lists. The Hornibrook units are expected to be replaced by new buses - timing unknown. Previously unrecorded indeed although it has been around for a while at Goolwa, and possibly Nuriootpa for a bit. I believe the replacemen...

Re: Difficult right hand turns for bus routes

830F/834/835 outbound turning right from Nairne Road into Onkaparinga Valley Road, Woodside, is a shocker. 839 clockwise at the Bollen Road/Flaxley Road/Hurling Drive dogleg can be a shermozzle at peak hours too. Turning right on the 894 (and 195/196) from Hewett Ave to Main Road is difficult at pea...

https://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/about-us/news/news-items/2024/bus-service-improvements The new T840 timetable is on the Adelaide Metro website now. Nice and clear now they have separated the T840/840X and 860F/863/864 blocks to simplify it. Also of note is that the 823 has been moved to the 865/86...

SouthLink Scania L94UB/Volgren CR224L 3269 (the first one) was retired from metro service following the 11:15 838H yesterday (9 January 2024). It will be joining 3270, 3310, and 3311 at LinkSA Murray Bridge, presumably for Monarto Zoo duties.

A nice variety of buses used on that - I would be very interested to hear the repowered L94. Also amusing to see what they had to do with the destination to get the 7-segment route number to display 4 characters

Speaking of which, does anyone happen to know where the two ZDis are now? Apparently a third was also produced for export to Dubai, if it was anything like the Adelaide ZDis, it's probably sitting in a scrap heap by now. I have seen a picture of them somewhere at the Bustech factory, stripped. So e...

Re: Least frequent bus service in Australia or New Zealand

How is a service like that ever supposed to attract passengers? I don’t think it even deserves the title of “service”. I guess Swan Reach has population of 300ish, and connects to Berri and Renmark (both with about 4000), so it’s unlikely to ever attract much. A weekly service as far as Berri is pr...

Route 1201R from Swan Reach to Renmark in South Australia’s Riverland only operates once every 8 weeks - that will be hard to best (or worst).

The Scania Product brochure claims that its vehicles can operate "in temperatures from -35°C to +40°, for all conditions up to 16% slopes, without compromising vehicle speed". I don't think Adelaide ever reaches 40+ temperatures, but if the C250EB is ordered by operators in NSW, QLD or th...

They seem to be then going to Hobart according to Metro Tas publicity. Did they ever actually run in Sydney? Maybe Metro Tas is getting 2 different buses? From what I have been led to believe, Transit Systems own the 2 ex-Sydney currently in Adelaide so I can’t see them being sent to a state with n...

Maybe we will finally see the beginning of the $29.4 million over 4 years to “establish a new dedicated express service, bus fleet, and depot” in Mount Barker, as promised in the budget.

Having read (some of, or most of) both, I can say that Tom Wilson's book largely follows on from Garth Evans' work, with more "why" and "how", whereas Evans was only focussing on "what" (and of course, "when"). So by reading Wilson, you somewhat remove the nee...

Nice pictures, shame about the livery... I'd also like to see the interiors, are they low-floor until the rear-most door, or already raised through the turntable as in the Custom CB60/Evo II/CB80 combo artics? The windowline suggests that the latter is the case, but this is Bustech we're talking ab...

Also, on public roads (accessible to all registered vehicles) there are rules, made by the government and enforced by the police. Rules like keeping to the left, stopping at red lights and various give way rules. Could it be any different on busways? Governments make rules for busways and police en...

Re: 2023 SA Transport observations

“Movember” has been supported by DIT again this year. I read on their Facebook page that 60 buses, 22 trains, and 10 trams have received moustaches. 60 buses and 3 contractors, it might be reasonable to assume 20 per contractor, or even down to a % of fleet per region. But both of those suppositions...

Disappointing to again see the "no cuts" rather than any incentive to improve services. The government clearly has no interest in providing better services to regional SA. I would argue they don’t have interest in providing better services to anywhere in SA, including the capital. I’ve he...
