Re: [Apr-Jun 2022] SA Transport observations

Tender has opened for regional bus services: Adelaide Metro link https://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/about-us/news/news-items/2022/regional_bus_services_procurement Will be interesting to see what comes of this - living in Mount Gambier, there have only been rather minor changes to the services here o...

Re: What gives you the S&#T's!?

Another option is to use a service like Onedrive or Dropbox to upload the photos to there, and then download them to your computer. I have my Onedrive setup to upload all photos taken to it, so that way if I do lose my phone or it gets fried or whatever, I will likely only lose whatever photos I'd t...

Re: What gives you the S&#T's!?

A majority of the "Mirror" casting applications on IOS are a joke, you either get an application that is marked as free, download and then run it only to find you can't continue without going on some bogus trial first, the others that don't paywall can't even detect your smart TV because ...

I simply won't use ATMs that charge a fee. Not that I'll even have the right to walk to one freely for at least 3 months in this nanny state. I use ING - if you have $1000 deposited into the account and do at least five purchase transactions with the debit card in a calendar month, in the following...

Re: What gives you the S&#T's!?

This reminds me honestly of the post a saw a couple of months ago on another discussion website where a few local Coles were getting rid of their delis completely, whether they were smaller stores or not I can't exactly remember. This is what they did with the Westfield Geelong Coles store, there's...

Re: Tenders to upgrade bus stops

Given they're all ads, it would ultimately be up to a) advertisers to decide whether spending that much on elaborate bus shelter advertising is worth it and 2) whoever approves the ads on bus shelters as to whether or not you'd see ads like that. The government themselves wouldn't be paying for them...

Re: Tap and Pay on Trams

That article seems to be referring to a different kind of fraud in the UK, similar to this . Similar rules for bank transfers apply in Australia, where if you transfer to someone wrong or someone fraudulent there's sometimes not much the banks can do about it. I don't know how much has changed with ...

Not to get too off topic, but they do under through a combination of the Visa and Mastercard and Zero Liability schemes and your banks chargeback policies, for example when someone tried booking train tickets in Germany using the numbers off my ANZ Card a few years back, the charges were wiped off m...

Re: Tap and Pay on Trams

It would be no different to any other contactless transaction, in that provided you comply with the terms of use, the bank wears the liability for any fraud. It looks like the new validators don't have a paper ticket slot, so if these get a wider release, I wonder if it will be alongside existing va...

Two things:

1. Please lay off the conspiracy theories.
2. While I appreciate there was punctuation used mostly appropriately in your wall of text, paragraphs are also your friend and you should consider using them as it improves readability significantly.

Re: What gives you the S&#T's!?

I do recall there being fresher bottles of milk behind the ones that were due to expire sooner a little while ago. Basic stock rotation at work - first in, first out. If you find that you aren't using a whole 1 litre container, I know some stores do a smaller 500ml or 600ml container. Alternately, ...

Coles refusing to put Milk on shelves that expires in more than a week! I wish they'd grow a brain and change this stupid policy... You will find that most businesses that deal with perishables will rotate their stock so that the oldest product is set to go out first to ensure that wastage is reduc...

The (Adelaide) DPTI's DILL**** attitude towards the metro card and ticket vending machines on trains that don't accept notes! This would require adding a a note acceptor into it (which are not cheap especially when you take into account that this would mean modifying the unit to accommodate it) and...

Re: Availability of printed timetables from Currie St InfoCe

So true. Adelaide Metro has a decent network map on the website but it is too big to print on the average home printer or use on a phone. If it was available in print & sold for a modest price I'm sure they would sell plenty of copies. The same goes for the late & lamented Melbourne map whi...

Re: Let's fix Channel Nine

It will be great for Ten to be free to go in a new direction without the shackles of Australia's usual bs media baron corporate culture. Somehow I doubt they will be able to ditch 95% of the rubbish programming presently on air, and move on. To call TV in Australia "crap" would do a disse...

So Lachlan Murdoch and co. didn't succeed in their last ditch attempt to prevent CBS getting the network instead of them? Ten employees should be happy then. Yep, their attempt to try and buy it on the cheap backfired when CBS came in with a compelling offer. Also not helping that was Murdoch's pre...

Re: Let's fix Channel Nine

where's the later versions of mom and two broke girls most of us have yet to see. They're both CBS shows, and CBS now owns Ten. I suspect that when CBS' output deals are done with Nine (not sure when that happens), they won't be renewed and CBS will start putting more of their shows on their new toy.

linking up with this could have been a single O-Bahn (reversible direction) track down the centre of Hackney Rd to the dedicated track and the use priority traffic lights could could have similarly speeded up the O-Bahn at a fraction of the tunnel cost. If you can replicate the same speed tests a couple of times throughout the day (and ideally on a wired connection to your router) call TPG and complain. If they can't fix it then I would complain very loudly and see about moving to another provider.

You do need to be careful with desktop power supplies. Cheaper power supplies often cannot safely deliver the stated wattage load. It is always wise to research the power supplies and find one that experts have determined are made from appropriate components that are less likely to go boom. You're d...

Re: Laptop or Desktop?

How so? You still have to charge them up, and even when they're not plugged in they're using power, just not from the grid. A typical laptop power supply consumes no more than 90W, and that's for a high end one. A desktop power supply generally starts at 250W for a basic system and gets higher for ...
