Re: What was the first bus you remember riding on?

My first was a Leyland tiger Half cab, with a wooden framed body as a school bus in NZ.

There are no original fronts left in Oz. The last one was used about 15 years ago, to replace one front, in Cairns that hit a bull, on inland road from Cooktown late at night. Yes I am guilty of that one!

Re: The Motoring Thread- for the motoring enthusiasts here

Accommodation can be an issue on the inland route. Mining has pushed up the price, and often not avaliable.

Re: Tropic Wings Coach Tours, Cairns.

Good Photos Craig. All of the Grayline and APT coaches have gone back to Tropic Wings Livery. It is a pity that the two tone blue stripes have gone (looked brilliant from #11 onwards) and are plain like #2. The only ones still striped on a recent visit to Cairns were #9, #12, #14. The Rosa at Kondar...

Re: Back in time : Down Under Cairns/Great Adventures

It should be noted that the vehicles pre 1990 and post 1990 belong to a different company. DUT shut down overnight and started up over night with a different corporate structure, although some management carried over. They then built up to a highly successful operation after this change in ownership

Re: Bendigo Coaches

When I drove this vehicle when it was new, many comments from truckies and other coaches about something wrong with the coach. Forward visibility was poor, and subject of many comments from tour passengers. The idea was also a longer floor meant more space between seats but the slope negated this be...

Re: Bendigo Coaches

It was built for Reef "n" Hinterland, Cairns and used for some tours and charter. As it was 14.5 meters long, it was restricted in its use. I have driven it when new on a number of occasions up the Kuranda Range Road (a restricted road) on a special permit, before QT stopped issuing those permits. T...

Re: Log Books/work diary - when do we need them.

Old small log bok NOT valid, and fine can apply. My advice, is if not sure fill one log book in anyway. Beats argument on side of road, which you will not win (sometimes a well worded letter to RTA will get you off later, it has worked for me, but embarrassing as passengers see you get ticket)

Re: Log Books/work diary - when do we need them.

Neil, you must go thru weigh stations if vehicle is of the weight listed, regardless of use of vehicle (motorhomes also apply with this). I believe you need a Work Diary, if more than the distance from where the paperwork is kept, or overnight trip. Some may suggest otherwise, but arguements at weig...

Re: A Weighty Question

I am one of the lucky ones. Most of our coaches(mainly very new fleet) have on board scales, which tell us the weights on each axle, and the total weight. So for us this is easy to keep under. But having said that, this option is very rare. You used to be permitted, many years ago, to re distribute ...
