Re: CM Valiants still doing the rounds.

It's a shame the Valiant couldn't survive the 80s, but by that stage Mitsubishi really didn't have anything competitive to replace it with. As of 1981 Chrysler (US) was on the K platform at the time which was designed around medium-sized front wheel drive cars with 4 or 6 cylinder engines (and who k...

Games: Tekken 1/2/3/Tag 1 (lost interest after Tekken 4, and Tekken 5's Jinpachi as well as the style change put me off the later ones completely, never mind that I stopped bothering with consoles after the PS2/GameCube) Mario Kart 64 (hands down the best Mario Kart - while I used to play Super Mari...

Re: Predictions for the 2020s

The Liberals will win three consecutive elections to retain the status quo while the AUD tanks to levels unseen since the late 90s (but how good is the Budget Surplus™?) Volgren ceases local manufacture after finding it cheaper to buy buses from China. Transdev calls it quits in Victoria and is repl...

Rode Ventura's Leyland Tigers on the 737 (and later, 742), the last clutchless manual/semi-automatic full size route buses in Melbourne (Mercedes-Benz LO412 aka Pie Carts were also manual but were minibuses, likewise Invicta's Hino TeleBuses of the day) Rode Invicta's first batch of LoRiders (Dennis...

Re: What gives you the S&#T's!?

Stage 3 coronavirus restrictions. Night workers are going to be shafted these days with 24 hour fast food options being killed. My local 24hr Hungry Jack's (Shell/ColesExp/HJs co-op) was forced to close at 11:30 every night so if you knock off or get your "lunch" break at 2AM or whatever you're stuf...

Snapped this one at Box Hill station on 8/6/2010. Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of the other side saying "All Belgrave trains will terminate at Belgrave until further notice".

Re: Rare and interesting car sightings

I remember there was a batch of London type cabs in Melbourne, can't remember what the model was called, but they were repowered with Commodore 3.8L V6 engines converted to LPG, was late 80's early 90's and last one retired in about 1997. They were sort of SUV like. There used to be a decrepit Reli...

Re: Rare and interesting car sightings

Here's one I forgot about from midday on Valentine's Day, a London cab that ended up lost in Ringwood, complete with UK plates. Photo taken in Bond St just after the first bus stop on route 742 past Costco. The Nissan Elgrand minivan next to it could be a Japanese import, as much like the taxi, I do...

IEV102 was at Ringwood at 2AM Friday night/Saturday morning, eventually left towards Belgrave with IEV102's newer panto up (the older yellow panto was down), SSR locos T381 leading and T386 trailing.

Re: Holden to be axed

It was already on the cards with Opel being swallowed up by PSA (aka Peugeot). Aside from the VE/VF Commodores (Zeta platform) there hasn't been a real Holden since the WB. Everything else was an Australianised Opel, Daewoo, Isuzu or Toyota (and the odd Suzuki and Nissan in the 80s, not sure about t...

Re: Victorian Ferry observations 2019

It needs to match myki fares in order to be competitive, all it needs are the myki validators and equipment on board just like a bus. Sydney's ferries have been using Opal cards for several years (and prior to that, the Sydney variant of Metcard, although the ticketing system was not unified thus a ...

EB Series 1 models are hard to find, they had quite a short production run, from mid 1991 until about Feb 1992 when the EBII 4 litre upgrade went into production, not as many built, The EA III 30th Anniversary produced from late 1990 until mid 1991 had a lot of EB bits in in it. The EB1's ere essen...

Re: Transdev Melbourne News 2019

Interesting those are going when they have a few years left until their 20th birthday, the youngest of that batch just 12 years old. Been noticing a lot of Transdev buses not having operational airconditioning, they can get a bit stuffy. I asked the driver nicely if the A/C was operational, but got...

Re: Rare and interesting car sightings

I HATE classic Valiants being driven by young people who weren't even a in existence when the final one rolled off the line in 1981. Why do they want one?!? They have no connection to them. Weird. They should only go to owners that appreciate then, not as a lark. This Valiant was owned by an older ...

It is odd that they will continue to run at 30 minute frequencies until late on Sunday night As they should. There is no excuse to why buses have to finish earlier on Sundays than every other day of the week. This is what all suburbs that don't have rail transport cop every single weekend, with the...

Re: Victorian Route and Timetable changes 2019

Yet another pointless Sunday-only restriction, in typical Ventura fashion. Not only is it a completely different timetable to the only other day of the week it runs (despite still running every 8 minutes due to the short distance!), two hours are inexplicably cut off the end with the last buses fini...

I saw a red VR Lexcen in a car yard yesterday, much like the one I used to have, price $2,500. The Lexcens (and the others) tend to be in better nick as a lot of them did not start off in fleets, I remembers some fleets that did grab Lexcens when delivery times for Commodores were long and Lexcen's...

To add to my wall from the last page: I just noticed that CBA Mitcham has also closed down and taken its 24/7 walk-in ATMs with it. At least I was able to get money out at the nearby ANZ, until both that and Westpac pull out of Mitcham too (NAB is long gone). At this rate the only place you will be ...
